Big Bear Weekend Update – Sept 12-14

Big Bear Lake OktoberFestThis weekend marks the kickoff of the 44th Annual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest.   In writing about that, the post was so long – it became the Big Bear Times first ” Big Bear Weekend Update Extra”.  Click here to read all about the Oktoberfest!
So what else is going on?  The days are starting to get a bit shorter, there is a bit of a chilly snap in the evenings and mornings.  Going for a hike, enjoying the lake or just going for a walk is highly recommended.  Just a safety reminder, check the weather first as downpours can happen this time of year.  Usually a little rain is welcome, but we do get flash floods in certain areas, if it is raining, and the creek is dry, stay an the trail.  Also, be wary of lightning during the fall storms, I have seen it hit water and trees here.

As Oktoberfest gets started, Friday Nights in The Village is winding down.  You only have this Friday and next to catch local bands playing outside.

Friday Nights in The Village -from 5 pm – 8 pm:
Duke Michaels and Peggy Badwin will be playing at the Copper Q. They are a dueling rock & country couple.

Skeleton Key will be on the corner of Pine Knot & Village Dr. They are Big Bear’s classic rock & roll group.

Todd & Barbi will be between Amangela’s and Home Warehouse Design Center on Village Dr.

Big Bear Weekend Update – Oktoberfest Special

OKTOBERFEST!!

Big Bear Lake OktoberFestThis weekend officially kicks off the 44th Annual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest!  Opening Ceremonies will happen on Saturday,  September 13th.

The first weekend traditionally has been all about our American Heroes.   All past and present military, law enforcement and fire fighters get FREE Admission Saturday Sept 13 and Sunday Sept 14.  The festivities kick-off once again with the American Heroes Weekend on Saturday, Sept. 13 & 14.  Opening ceremonies offer a special tribute to those who have put their lives on the line protecting our freedoms with FREE Admission for all past and present military, law enforcement and fire fighters.

For the most of us – this weekend tickets are $12 Saturday and $7 on Sunday.  They have a deal for $14 you get both days – so that sounds like a winner to me.  There are senior and children discounts as well as other packages.  They have separate (and MUCH shorter) line for those who purchase tickets in advance.  Get your Oktoberfest tickets here.

What Oktoberfest would be complete without live bands?  This year, straight from that far-away place Anaheim, The Express Band will kick off the festivities this weekend and return again October 11, 12, 18, 19, & 25.  This year the Big Bear Oktoberfest also has 2 bands direct from Germany – Goldeisen and The Aalbachtal Express.

The Goldeisen Band describes themselves as German Folk Rock.  Just so you know what that is, here is their official video – I think it is rather cool!

The Goldeisen Band will play our Oktoberfest September 20, 21 & 27.

The Aalbachtal-Express is a more traditional Oktoberfest band and will be performing September 28 and October 3, 4, & 5.  This 11-piece band is famous for its authenticity and upbeat performances.
